One direction, although they did not win in the X Factor, experienced planetary glory. Even today, ten years after the formation of this group, they have an army of fans who follow their solo careers with equal zeal. Among the guys who almost ended up in One Direction was John Wilding, who was 17 at the time, and whose first friends on the show were Harry Stiles and Niall Horan. He is now 27 years old and continues to play music, and recently stated that he is aware that he does not have the necessary qualities to join the group, but that he was perhaps most disappointed that he will see less of his new friends Harry and Niall. Every night during the X-Factor shoot, John would go with Harry to the McDonald’s and order a pack of chicken nuggets and that was their little ritual.
Paije Richardson is also one of the candidates who failed to break into those directions, as he says because he didn’t “fit the aesthetics”. He was one of the better planned contestants, so he built a solid career at the time, went on tour with other well-placed contestants, but also released songs that did relatively well on streaming services such as Spotify
